Please don't go to that library. That places is full of homeless and it is very dangerous. This weekend in crimeradar was a report of sex assault there. I have a neighbor that went there to tutor a student and a homeless was exposing himself to them. Fairfax county government is putting residents and kids at danger. They don't care about the safety of the families that go there. Please provide your concerns to the Board of supervisors for Reston walter Alcorn. He is not doing anything to move the homeless from the Reston library and all that street. Also the human services building in Reston became a shelter with homeless.
Good morning. I am a MS customer and LOVE MY RESTON LIBRARY!! I am here SEVERAL times a week and ALWAYS assisted because of my MS I am no longer able to work. Everything I need to submit to the government etc. The are ALL SO NICE AND KIND EVERY TIME I AM THERE!!!! They WELCOME me a a BIG smile as SOON I I WALK INSIDE!!! There has NEVER BEEN A TIME I NEEDED HELP AND WAS NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE THE HELP NEEDED. They ALWAYS offer assistance to ALL that is need off help in whichever is needed. THEY ALL GO ABOVE AND BEYOND THEIR CALL OF DUTIES TO HELP!! I live down the street across in THE TOWN OF HERNDON which is WALKING distance from my house across the street but I rather DRIVE to this location instead. THEIR SECURITY TEAM IS AWESOME AS WELL!!!!!
Staff: The staff here is lovely. i appreciate how friendly they are, and that if there's an issue I can always go to them. The branch manager is lovely and I enjoy getting to do a quick chat with her when I enter. I've also chatted with security when I had questions, and the branch manger took it upon herself to help make the space more accessible for me (a wheelchair user) by moving the printer because it blocked foot path for me and I kept nearly or actively running into it due to the tight squeeze. Accessibility: This is where I have to dock points. It's not their fault, the library is OLD. But the doors have a slight bump I have to wheelie over or I can't get in and the ramp to the entrance is STEEP. People complaining about homeless folks: Grow up. Homeless people are often in libraries. It's a space with free wifi, clean drinking water, often menstrual products, AC, heat, protection from the elements, and other things they often can't get, especially when homeless shelters are closed for the day or full. Homeless people are patrons just like anyone else, that's a principle and part of the library bill of rights that is available to read on the ALA website. You can handle seeing people in different economic conditions than you. It's okay.
Library could be nice but it is next to a homeless shelter. And by next to I mean it is essentially an extension of a homeless shelter. The elected officials in Reston do nothing about it. I didn’t give one star because it’s not Library’s fault, per se, but they do let a homeless person’s VW bug, with occupants, stay parked there in the parking lot. I was harassed every time I’ve been in the vicinity, which is not too many times.
Excellent library with friendly staff. The checkout kiosks are upgraded. The holds are well maintained and very useful for quick checkout. There is security in staff always, there is shelter nextdoor. So there are people around struggling with homelessness. The staff are excellent to deal with any situation and friendly with all. Get kids reading early and a lot. Best thing one can do for them. Lots of graphic novels enjoyable for teens and adults as well. It's blessing all of us have access to nice libraries to keep up with reading all the wonderful books.
